What happens if the TARDIS crew change history?

This very subject is still an essential part of Doctor Who in 2011, and over the years the answered has varied. In the Time Meddler, Vicki speculates that if history is changed, then so will our memories. This is a fascinating concept - what if history IS changing all the time, and we don't even realise? Here though, the answer is clear: YOU CANNOT CHANGE HISTORY. NOT ONE LINE.

As well as a gripping theme, this serial is also blessed with sublime dialogue and performances from everybody and, thanks to the monochrome photography, you can really believe that this studio-bound story takes place in a scorching Mexico.

Another outstanding factor here, which is almost unique to 1960s Who, is the pacing. Benefiting from the just-so format of four episodes, it feels like there isn't a single scene wasted - every second seems to be advancing the plot. Admittedly, there's not much for Susan to do again, but apart from that, the other three regulars are served well. But this is really Barbara's story, and one which show's that Jacqueline Hill's creation is one of the finest of all companions.

A masterful early Who which I'd heartily recommend to everyone.darkwebonlinehttp://www.darkwebonline.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284961058548237555.post-74101665066283268422011-01-19T05:46:03.109-08:002011-01-19T05:46:03.109-08:00Thanks.

Some of Hartnell's later episodes are a bit rough, like the Gunfighters, but all in all one of my favorite doctors.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
