You don't always notice what a good actor he is because he is playing an unshowy, nondescript bloke, but he did it perfectly. Other than existing ENTIRELY as Amy's lapdog, with literally no other significance to the show whatsoever? I guess that means Steven Moffat must be a vile, dirty misandrist!Superaboundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16181114605130767155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284961058548237555.post-68500679689392975232013-05-22T09:33:47.412-07:002013-05-22T09:33:47.412-07:00Clara is part of a recurring problem where female ...Clara is part of a recurring problem where female characters are defined in relation to male characters.

How would one describe Amy? A major part of the description would be that she loves Rory, but also has a thing for Dr. Who. How would one describe River Song? One could sum her entire characterisation by saying that she is Dr. Who's action girl love interest.

With Clara this is even more extreme in that she is ontologically grounded in the purpose of saving Dr. Who.Matthew Celestinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02874430461346560520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284961058548237555.post-91321709000509713622013-05-22T08:16:20.282-07:002013-05-22T08:16:20.282-07:00Hmmm, that was slightly harsh (the first comment, ...Hmmm, that was slightly harsh (the first comment, not the review). I like this episode (and Moffat in general) more than you, but I agree that all the eleventh Doctor finales are getting a bit samey-wamey. Would disagree that Clara is a more misogynistic character than any of the other recent companions - the show's always going to revolve around the Doctor, and it at least makes clear it's her own positive choice to go in and save him at the end. That repeated cry of 'we all know he's called Doctor Who' is sounding increasingly disingenuous, by the way... :) Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284961058548237555.post-6527180786927014442013-05-19T08:47:59.533-07:002013-05-19T08:47:59.533-07:00Thanks for visiting and offering your thoughts on ...Thanks for visiting and offering your thoughts on the post.Matthew Celestinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02874430461346560520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284961058548237555.post-88727725340630844022013-05-19T08:42:20.566-07:002013-05-19T08:42:20.566-07:00Well, I see someone completely failed at watching ...Well, I see someone completely failed at watching the episode. Time to stop thinking of yourself as a Doctor Who fan if you're going to keep this ridiculously wrong.Charles Skaggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04051108627625148683noreply@blogger.com
